The Crown Jewels are stored within.

“Three hundred years ago a prisoner condemned to the Tower of London carved on the wall of his cell this sentiment to keep up his spirits during his long imprisonment: ‘It is not adversity that kills, but the impatience with which we bear adversity.”

 ~Father James Keller

At the time of my visit in 1985, not only was the Tower a museum full of fascinating relics, it also houses the Crown Jewels, though my jubilation at the fact quickly sank as the tour guide explained that for security purposes, the jewels before our eyes were but mere imitations. Here is a backside view of the Towers.
